Bulma traveled to find Dragon Balls because of one purpose, to find a boyfriend. This ridiculous thing finally made him meet with Goku, Oolong, Ox-King, Master Roshi, to creatures like Pterodactyl, Monster Carrot, or Emperor Pilaf. But behind that, he also finally met with Yamcha. At first, Yamcha was just a desert bandit who wanted to rob Dragon Balls, but eventually turned into a prince on a white horse, and realized Bulma's dream.
